Communal or Not?

On April 16th 2020, when the entire country was observing the lockdown due to COVID-19, there were around 100 people in Palghar district of Maharashtra who took law in their hands in front of the law protectors and killed two sadhus along with their thirty-year-old driver.

I am just a blogger who writes on real issues which are seldom taken into account so if you ask where was I during CAA, Section 370 and Triple Talaq, my answer is they got enough attention and this didn’t.

As per my research about the incident, the two sadhus namely, Chikne Maharaj Kalpvrukshagiri (70), Sushigiri Maharaj (35) and their cab driver Nilesh Telgade (30) were on their way to Surat to attend the last rites of their guruji Ramgiri Maharaj. As swift as the rumours flow, they were misidentified as thieves, dragged out of their car and beaten to death. The most interestingly horrible part of this extra ordinary incident is that it happened in the presence of police.

A video went viral showing the scary picture of mob lynching. The three men were dragged out of their car but they were relieved to see the police. They thought that they will be saved but police just stood there and witnessed. In a conversation with the wife of the third victim, Nilesh Telgade, India Today, reports, that he is survived by his two children (aged five and seven), wife and mother. Nilesh was the sole bread winner of the family and now his family wants to know who will take care of them. His wife reportedly said that she can’t even look at his face because it is so badly damaged. This incident arises questions in my head and I think many others as well.

In a recent development, Home Minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh has made the public list of 101 arrested (Source: The Hindu). The list has no Muslim names and hence it is urged not to communalise this incident. But I want to ask why hasn’t there been any award returning or candle crying for these innocent people? Where are those liberals who were at Shaheen Baug and JNU? Why is there not even a single social media post? Where is the opposition who was standing with the terrorists of Batla house? Why haven’t they given any statement yet while the torch bearer of opposition couldn’t sleep for three nights for the Batla House terrorists? They have called all types of lynching in India as communal but why are you even giving a statement?

As seen in the video, 70-year-old, Chikne Maharaj is begging the police to save him from the mob yet he was being hit on his head with rods, blood was rushing down from his skull. He was holding the policeman’s hand so firmly with tears in his eyes in the hope that he will be helped. All three of them died with their bodies stuffed in a tempo like some garbage. Why were those people allowed to take law in their hands in front of the police? Where were the torch bearers of law when these people were breaking the lockdown and coming out of their houses in this huge number? Why did this video come out after two days while the media kept on reporting them as thieves? However, two policemen are suspended which according to me is not enough punishment.

I want to know, where has humanity gone? Is this the country we should be proud of? Those innocent men were killed for no fault. The sight of the sadhu begging for help is going to haunt me for several nights and enrages me to demand hanging of the culprit because no less punishment can do justice to their death.
